History

Nairutia Vocational Training Centre began as Nairutia Youth Polytechnic, serving the rural Kieni constituency by training young school leavers in basic tailoring and woodwork. The centre experienced significant modernization through international aid and local partnerships. An Italian non-profit, Goal Smiles Onlus, collaborated with the Nyeri County Government to install a 10KVA solar grid, upgrade water networks, and fully equip a commercial training kitchen. By 2021, the institution had transformed into a production hub, introducing regional models for greenhouse tomato farming, horticulture, poultry rearing, and commercial aquaculture. These initiatives were designed to support community livelihoods and provide hands-on apprentice training.
