History

Matuga Vocational Training Centre (VTC) is a public institution offering technical and vocational education and training in Matuga Sub-County, Kwale County, Kenya. The Centre was established following the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the subsequent formation of county governments, which led to the transfer of vocational training functions from the national government to county governments in 2013. Although vocational training centres were formally absorbed by the County Government of Kwale in 2013, Matuga Vocational Training Centre officially commenced operations under the county government in 2015. The Centre was established to address the growing need for technical skills development among the youth and to provide opportunities for employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship within the county and beyond. Since its inception, Matuga VTC has experienced steady growth in student enrolment, training programmes, infrastructure, and learning resources. The institution offers competency-based training in various technical and vocational fields aimed at equipping trainees with practical skills that meet industry and labour market demands. Over the years, the Centre has benefited from investments by the County Government of Kwale and other stakeholders in the improvement of workshops, classrooms, training equipment, and learner support services. Through its commitment to quality training and community empowerment, Matuga VTC has become an important centre for skills development and a catalyst for socio-economic transformation in Matuga Sub-County and the wider Kwale County. Today, Matuga Vocational Training Centre continues to uphold its mission of nurturing skilled, innovative, and self-reliant graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development and the realization of Kenya's Vision 2030.
